Mary Crowley is the founder and CEO of Ocean Voyages Institute (OVI) established in 1979 as a nonprofit, public charity based in Sausalito, California, with the goal of preserving the maritime arts and sciences, the ocean environment and island cultures. OVI's efforts since 2009 have focused on ocean cleanup of consumer plastics and derelict fishing gear which entraps sea wildlife, kills reefs and marine habitats. Using innovation such as GPS satellite trackers and drone patterns in 2019 and 2020 allowed to achieve the largest ever mid-ocean cleanup of plastic trash and ghost-nets from the North Pacific Gyre to date; which constitutes a promising connection and key role in the partnership developed with For the Oceans foundation in order to achieve the goals of the “Ambassadors for the Oceans” initiative.

You can protect threatened ocean wildlife and their habitats with a monthly donation to For The Oceans. We are thrilled to have recently acquired our first sailing vessel dedicated to educating youth about ocean conservation as well as cleaning up plastic debris. Your support of our oceans is needed now to enable us to secure a second vessel to begin patrolling Costa Rican waters to stop illegal and unregulated fishing. PLEASE DONATE TODAY!
